Grade Placement Equivalents

Grade Placement Guidelines

  • Early Years Program Placement: Students in the Early Years Program are placed based on age requirements corresponding to their grade level (3 – 5 years old). The cutoff date is September 30 of the intended school year.
  • Placement from Grade 1 onward: For students enrolling at the beginning of the school year starting from Grade 1, will be considered in sequential order based on the program they are currently enrolled in or have successfully completed most recently.
  • Placement for Mid-Year Arrivals: Students who join after the start of the school year will be placed in the grade level corresponding to their enrollment status as of September of the current school year. For instance, a student from the USA in Grade 1 in August 2023 will continue in Grade 1 at United Lisbon if they enroll during the 2023/24 school year.
  • Students transitioning from educational systems with different school calendars, such as those in Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Japan, India, Australia, and New Zealand, are expected to follow the year group they were assigned to in September of the current academic year. For instance, a student coming from an Australian educational system and is in Grade 8 in September 2023, they will be placed in Grade 8 at ULIS for the academic year 2023-2024.
  • Final Grade Placement Decision: The Admissions Committee will conduct a comprehensive review of each application. Subsequently, they will make the final decision on the appropriate grade placement for the student.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

Admission Requirements

  • Language requirements
  • Demonstrate the qualities of the IB Learner Profile, such as curiosity, effective communication, and a willingness to embrace new knowledge.
  • Display strong time-management and organizational skills, which are vital for success in the IB program.
  • Have successfully completed grade 10 to be accepted into the IB Diploma Programme.
  • To meet the condition of having three years of secondary-level education and a total of 12 years of schooling, applicants must have completed Grade 10 in a recognized high school before entering Grade 11 of the IBDP. This is applicable for students coming from the 11 Year school system.
  • Language B Enrollment: Students must have a minimum of 2 or 3 years of experience in a language to be eligible to enroll in that language as a Language B.
  • Subject-Specific Requirements: Certain subjects and levels may have additional requirements. For instance, to enroll in Mathematics AA HL, it is expected that students have achieved a final grade of an A in Grade 10.

External Grade 11 Enrollment: If applicants are currently enrolled in grade 11 at another school offering the IBDP, their enrollment must include the same six subjects offered at ULIS to be considered eligible for grade 12 admission.
Transfer students applying for Grade 12 at United Lisbon must have been enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) during their Grade 11 year. After the second week of October, United Lisbon will no longer accept or process applications from students in Grades 11 and 12 who are not currently enrolled in an IB school. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
